Houghton Water-Based Fluids
If the equipment you are running doesn't have a high motor speed and doesn't require a tremendous amount of pressure, water-based fluids are typically the most cost-effective option. All of Houghton's water-based fluids are fire resistant and available in a variety of viscosities to meet your hydraulic fluid requirements.
*Houghto-Safe® Water Glycol Fluids - Die casters and food processors choose our water glycols for their excellent fire resistance. Made of high quality ingredients, Houghto-Safe water glycols are extremely stable. And, they can be operated at lower ambient temperatures.
We offer many types of water glycols, each designed for the specific needs of different industries or customers. For example, we offer a food grade water glycol for food processors. And, we developed a water glycol for government use that meets specification MIL-H-22072. The U.S. Navy first installed this product in catapult systems in 1954 and continues to benefit from it today.
*Houghto-Safe Invert Emulsions - Our invert emulsions exhibit good lubricity and are compatible with most seals, making them ideal for the steel industry and many automobile manufacturing plants. Although a cost-efficient option, they are limited to certain temperatures and will freeze around 32°F.
*Hydrolubric® High Water Content Fluids (HWCF) - Our HWCF products generally contain 90-99% water, so their viscosity and fire resistance are akin to water. Shipped to you as a concentrate, they are extremely cost-effective. Houghton's synthetic Hydrolubric concentrates are biodegradable, making them easy to maintain, easy on the environment, and easy to treat. Many steel mills and foundries benefit from our HWCFs.
