Houghton Launches Environmentally Friendly Cut-Max® V500 Cutting Oils
In response to the growing need for metalworking facilities to comply with environmental guidelines and promote cleaner machining operations, Houghton International has developed the Cut-Max® V500 series of neat cutting oils. These biodegradable, vegetable-based metalworking oils are free of mineral oil and chlorinated additives.

Cut-Max V500 cutting oils resist oxidation and provide high natural lubricity to extend the use life of cutting tools. Their low viscosity helps maintain fluid longer and reduces dragout on swarf. Additionally, these vegetable-based oils have higher flash points than traditional cutting oils and produce less mist and fumes, reducing the risk of fire and improving worker safety. Using Cut-Max V500 products can eliminate the need for expensive carbon dioxide fire blanket equipment, which is often required when using lower flash point mineral oils.

Cut-Max V500 products are ideal for applications requiring a higher level of tooling performance or for applications where leaks and losses occur in the manufacturing environment. These applications include: honing and superfinishing (Cut-Max V505); grinding, including CBN and light machining (Cut-Max V509); cast iron gun drilling (Cut-Max V516); general machining, including turned parts (Cut-Max V520); and gear machining (Cut-Max V530).

Houghton also offers a compatible range of vegetable-based hydraulic and slideway oils for customers looking to completely convert their machine shops over to modern, renewable vegetable-based alternatives.
